Primary function

The Business Intelligence department leads on data analytics at LAO, delivering strategic analysis to drive policy, project and strategic direction at all levels of the organization. Through conducting a wide range of research and analysis across LAO programs, services providers and vulnerable client groups, the department leverages internal and external data sources to advance understanding of emerging trends and issues.

The team is seeking a well-rounded analytical expert who is both technically skilled and able to engage with non-data colleagues to bring insight and response strategies to findings in analytical work that are aligned with LAO strategic goals. The ideal candidate will be a resourceful self-starter who is able to deliver quality analysis from the ideas stage through to presenting well considered conclusions to senior management; driving LAO towards its strategic objectives.

The Business Intelligence is situated in the Strategy and Public Affairs division and works in close collaboration with LAO Policy department.

Reporting to: Manager, Business Intelligence

Key accountabilities

• Deliver strategic analysis to drive policy, project and strategic direction at LAO
• Conduct advanced statistical analysis to support strategic initiatives, engaging with relevant groups to gather intelligence, interpret findings and make recommendations to inform decision making
• Manage a portfolio of analytical projects, from idea conception through analytical stages, delivering coherent and well organized final products which are tailored to the needs of the audience
• Lead and facilitate consultations at all levels of the organization on results of analytics projects
• Develop and deliver quality presentations and reports to senior management and the LAO Executive
• Present findings of analysis to colleagues, senior management and executives with varying levels of technical understanding, tailoring presentations to the audience
• Lead the development, design and implementation of organizational surveys, presenting results, engaging on findings and facilitating discussion on response strategies
• Build collaboration on business intelligence across LAO through formal and informal networks
• Develop and document processes, audit trails and workings to ensure robust documentation of regular deliverables
• Provide recommendations to departments across LAO on how to effectively measure performance of initiatives and project against original objectives
• Carry out regular and ad-hoc reporting, evaluations and analyses
• Provide subject matter expertise in data analytics and promote a culture of data-driven decision making
• Foster and oversee partnership opportunities in the justice sector, Provincial Ministries, other Provinces and Federal Government to acquire relevant, reliable data and business intelligence from other sources
• Promote and demonstrate a commitment to diversity, accessibility, equity and inclusion

Required skills & experience

• Undergraduate degree in mathematics, statistics, business or economics; or an equivalent combination of education and experience acquired through past work experience
• Minimum 5 years experience working in an analytical capacity
• Significant experience planning, managing and leading analytical projects and assignments through to conclusion
• Strong analytical and research skills to anticipate, identify and quantitatively assess emerging trends and issues
• Demonstrated ability to build and maintain collaborative and productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders
• Demonstrated quick-learner with a desire to learn beyond the immediate responsibilities of the individual role
• Advanced presentation and writing skills with demonstrated ability to produce high quality, dependable documents and visual presentations
• Ability to discuss technical information with both technical and non-technical staff, breaking down complex concepts
• Excellent consultation, facilitation, and communication skills
• Strong sense of client-focused service
• Understanding of legal aid and justice systems issues and/or public sector, or willingness to learn
• Demonstrated sound political judgment and experience working with confidential information
• Highly proficient MS Excel skills
• Knowledge of SPSS, SQL, Power BI is an asset
